The history of Ajmer began when Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan established his capital in his part of Rajasthan in the 7th century A.D. and it was a major center of the chauhan power till 1193 A.D. and that time Ajmer was known as Ajaimeru.When Prithviraj Chauhan lost it to Mohammed Ghauri.Since then, Ajmer became home to many dynasties. The British chose Ajmer for its prestigious Mayo College a school for Indian nobility.
